While rummaging through one of the fifteen drawers in my apartment, I came across something that seemed simple and harmless: a washcloth. Nothing exciting, I know, but it held within it dozens or even hundreds of hours of my Grandmother showing me how to knit. When it wasn't her teaching me, it was the supervisors at my primary school during educational days or even my friends who were more skilled than me.
One might believe that a piece of knitting is nothing more than what it already is: a piece of knitting. When boredom weighs on me and I want a handmade scarf, I remember the tips and tricks given to me by these women and I can almost come up with something pretty and practical. .
But when everything is lost or damaged, what remains is the know-how that I have inherited, which depends on a host of women. It’s a community that I’m not the only one to be a part of. Beyond Women's Day, it is good to remember the great female figures who have punctuated History, as those closest to us, those who have left their mark everywhere in our daily lives, making it simpler and almost Magic.
The heart of Belle+Rebelle is made up of entrepreneurs who wish to participate in this sharing effort by putting forward local creators who will in turn be able to continue to flourish and share irreplaceable know-how.
If the annual calendars give us a day to celebrate Women and their well-deserved rights, we believe that we benefit as a community by highlighting those who surround us near or far.
And what better way to start this new adventure of the Belle+Rebelle blog than by offering new, unique content to all those who follow us here and elsewhere?
